Consumer Evaluations

When I was growing up, the rich youngsters had Schwinn bicycles. Schwinn meant excellent, reliability and extended lasting. When my wife wanted a new road bicycle, we shopped around and in the end, she picked a Schwinn. I reside in the north east so riding just about every day is difficult as the climate gods turn a cold shoulder to my neck of the woods. To keep riding, we shopped for an exercising bicycle and my wife, once again, picked a Schwinn. Unlike the bike I am reviewing these days, she picked a recumbent and since it was going to be her machine, and she was paying, it came household with us. So, for years, I have gotten my nearly every day repair on that Schwinn recumbent bicycle. Though I place lots of hours a week on it, to get your pulse rate and calories calculated, I have to place my hands on the sensor pads on the bars that sit below the seat - not a natural position for me but I have gotten implemented to it. I substantially choose riding with my hand "up on the bars".
Enter the Schwinn 120 Upright. It is a regular bicycle in form and function and this will be MY exercising tool going forward. As with every other Schwinn item we have bought, the 120 Upright says High-quality with a capital Q. Hefting it into the house tells me that this is a serious machine - the label on the side warns the wary that it is a heavy package.
Assembly (with instructions in English and Spanish) was intuitive and uncomplicated. They even included a great set of tools so the only factor I had to go to the tool drawer for was a scissor to cut out the screws, bolts and tools from their cardboard backing. I assume it took me 45 minutes from opening the box to sitting on the seat and taking my initial ride. Like my recumbent Schwinn, the "laptop" enables you to system your exercise regimen. My usual system on my old bike is to choose a level of difficulty, get started going and work as challenging as I can to hit my target pulse rate. In Schwinn-speak, that's their Rapid Start program. The 120 Upright performs the exact same way so there was no studying curve. Yet, if you are a more inventive rider, you can set up a custom workout. They have two courses, 2 circuits, and two "pursuit" modes. Every is adjustable for time and intensity (or resistance). You can even use it to set and then measure your improvement in fitness.
The unit has a feature that lets you keep track of the many people who use it and will report on your number of workouts, total hours used, average speed, total distance and even total calories burned. Quite cool, I must say.
They have added a couple of other cool features not in my old model. Very first, there is a 2 speed fan - nice considering that the fan on my recumbent is too weak to be reliable. And they have a connection and non-skid pad for your MP3 player (naturally, with built in speakers). Not sure I see the will need for that since I have my workout machines in a space with Tv, radio and CD player but if you don't, this should certainly be an appreciated feature. Particularly if your MP3 player shows video since the holder is suitable there in front of you.
OK, so why four stars and not four? Properly, the 1 factor I don't like is the computer display. It is LCD with thin stick letters - I identify the numbers challenging to see and due to the fact I perform out attempting to hit a target, seeing the numbers and the graphs in the dim morning light is imperative to me. I know, minor gripe but there you have it. Other than that, it is all excellent. The seat is even really comfy.
Schwinn superior. Painless setup. Lots of features. Feels like it will perform properly for years. Possibly four 1/2 stars?

Prior to receiving this Schwinn model, the only experience I had with an exercising bike was a rather primitive a single that could only claim a resistance knob and a padded seat among its attributes. So I was pleased to unearth this Schwinn 120 model characteristics a handy water bottle holder, a rubber mat on the console to hold your MP3 player secure, an region to place a book or magazine, and a built-in cooling fan. There is also an input port to plug in an iPod with speakers built-in to the console, but it does not perform with my Sandisk MP3 player.
There are six preset workout applications and the solution to enter your facts, age, and weight in a custom profile to hold track of your progress. Your profile will track your number of workouts, total hours spent, typical speed, total distance, and total calories. My preferred feature is the ability to modify the resistance on the fly with the simple press of a button. Wheels are included on 1 of the base supports to make moving the unit a bit much easier. The seat is comfortable (for a bicycle seat) and easily adjustable to numerous heights.
Assembly is quite straight forward and will take the improved component of an hour. All the essential tools are conveniently included in the box. The only tool you are going to have to have is the knife or scissors you implemented to open the box, as you are going to have it to extract the smaller components from the plastic-covered cardboard. A small thing, but I appreciated the truth that the manual is entirely in English without being cluttered by an additional language. A separate French manual is included and the solution to view the manual in Spanish is offered on the company's webpage.
There are only a couple outright negatives I found with this model. The fan's output at even the highest level is practically imperceptible with out obtaining your face almost pressed against the console. This is by far the most disappointing unfavorable as it really is a terrific feature that's rendered practically useless by poor execution. Also, the LCD display could have benefited from acquiring a backlit choice, as with no direct light on the console the letters and numbers can be difficult to read. Despite these problems, I've put a number of hours on this bike due to the fact receiving it and I'm rather satisfied. Overall, this item is an hassle-free four stars and a great value to boot.
